A Fleeting Intent

Saturday, February 28th, 2015

An instrumental track (and my 11th song) for FAWM 2015, I wanted to create a sense of ambience but with some start-stop beats.

Iron and Coke

Saturday, February 28th, 2015

This is my 10th song for FAWM 2015, written on my birthday, 2/21. We were pretty much snowed in all day, so I wrote this. In 6/8, because it seemed most fitting for the lyrics (which I had written previously).

I’m not too thrilled with the vocals — they really need to be re-recorded, but I did what I could in the time I had.

Main synth part: Pittsburgh Modular, sequenced with Doepfer Dark time, run through Ibanez Tube Screamer and Malekko E616 Dark analog delay.

Bass: microbrute

Higher arpeggiated part: minibrute through Small Stone phaser
Pad: SQ8L (plugin)
Reverb: ValhallaRoom
Software delay: ValhallaUberMod

Lyrics

A surge in elevation
Rails of segmented steel
Blustering past an old coal mine
Rattling scraps of ore and tire

Blackened sky
Diffuse and shadowless
Indeterminate sun
Casting over

Blackened eye
A spiteful domain
Of smoky men of coke
And ore and creosote

Shapeless through vapor
Silent shifting over trestle
Carrying its nameless cargo
Long through the day and night

Blackened eye
A spiteful domain
Inhabited by smoky
Men of ore and coke

Miles and miles
Long runs of iron rail
Over impossible peaks
Through drilled earthen tunnels

Blackened sky
Diffuse and shadowless
Indeterminate sun
Casting over

Blackened eye
A spiteful domain
Of smoky men of coke
And ore and creosote

A way through the lime
And dusty grime
Forcing its sway
Long into the endless night

Blackened sky
Diffuse and shadowless
Indeterminate sun
Casting over

Blackened eye
A spiteful domain
Of smoky men of coke
And ore and creosote

Have You?

Saturday, February 28th, 2015

A heavier, more industrial track for FAWM 2015. Despite spending more time on this than some of my other stuff it feels less finished. This is the best attempt at more aggressive vocals I’ve done so far.

The more repetitive lyrics are a bit different for me as well.

Lyrics

How’ve you
Stopped it going
All this time?

How’ve you
Stopped it all inside?

How’ve you stopped it
From your mind?

Have you stopped it all now?
Have you stopped it all now?
Have you stopped it all now?
Have you stopped it all now?

How long have you
Kept it going?
How long have you
Kept it going?
How long have you
Kept it all inside?
How long have you
Kept it all inside?

How do you keep yourself alive?
How do you keep yourself alive?
How do you keep yourself alive?
How do you keep yourself alive?

How do you keep yourself alive?
How do you keep yourself alive?
How do you keep yourself alive?
How do you keep yourself alive?

How long have you kept it
In your mind?
How long have you
stayed alive?

Have you
Kept it going
all this time?
Have you
Stopped it all inside?

You haven’t kept yourself alive.
You haven’t kept yourself alive.
You haven’t kept yourself alive.
You haven’t kept yourself alive.

You haven’t kept yourself alive.
You haven’t kept yourself alive.
You haven’t kept yourself alive.
You haven’t kept yourself alive.

You haven’t
Kept it going all this time.

You haven’t
Kept it all inside.

You lost yourself you are not alive.
You lost yourself you are not alive.
You lost yourself you are not alive.
You lost yourself you are not alive.
You lost …
