Mixed-terrain snowbiking

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

On Saturday, my friend Dave and I connected for some snowbiking. We had planned on mountain biking at  Brown County State Park, but the snow made the roads sketchy, so we weren’t sure we could actually get there. We changed our plans and went snowbiking elsewhere instead.

There wasn’t a lot of snow, maybe two inches, and with temperatures in the teens (Fahrenheit) and windchills sometimes dipping below zero, it was cold enough that the snow was light and fluffy. The conditions were great! We managed around 15 miles of gravel, trails, and a little pavement,  on a cold, snowy day, but we were so well prepared that we both felt comfortable throughout the entire 2 1/2 hours we were riding.

Great pics – except that furry slow dude kept getting in the way of the nature shots! Now that I look back at the pictures, I realize it really was a beautiful day – and that’s a nice little loop. More snow biking!!

As usual, Michael, great pictures. But glad the snow is there and not in Florida where we are! We always enjoy your blogs and pics after your rides. Bob & Pat

Thanks. I love it when various Gregoires comment on my blog 🙂

Beautiful stuff. I’d love to ride with Dave G again at the Sub9, but without the sub-20F.

Tim – Michael mentioned the “Death March” event in the National Forest, and I’m intrigued. I’ll gather some more information and give it serious consideration. It’d be great to ride with you guys in that area again…minus the white-out conditions, icy downhills, and swollen knee. But hey, it’s not until March, so maybe we’ll get our wish!

Looks like a good day out!
