I miss commuting

Friday, November 21st, 2008

It may seem like a weird thing to say, but since we moved, I’ve been working from home — and I’ve been missing having a commute. Sure, I can still go out for rides, but there’s something to be said for having a constant ride each day, with a real purpose. It’s harder to make myself go ride when it’s cold, windy and dark, and I don’t have anywhere I need to be. Perhaps I should start running more errands by bicycle, or scheduling rides for certain days/times each week, or something. I’m a creature of habit, and my routine is a bit off at the moment.

maybe you could just start riding your bike to someone’s office and see if they notice

I couldn’t agree more. The morning commute give me te reason to suit up and get on the road. Without that, I seem to dither and daly and sometimes I don’t even make it on the bike.

As for the errand ride, Right On! Make the bike your 2nd vehicle. In many ways, that’s my converse problem. I don’t enjoy regular road riding as much now b/c I don’t have somewhere to go. Commuting gives me purpose.

You’ll get back in gear, though. New state, city, surroundings. It’ll take time to figure how to best fit in. good luck!

I’m a creature of habit as well. If I didn’t have the daily commute I’d probably ride about 300 miles per year.
