I actually like to ride gravel roads on a road bike. But, I don't even own a multi-speed road bike anymore. In its stead I have my cross bike, which I switch from smooth tires to knobby, depending on whether I'm riding road or trail. In either mode, it's literally made for gravel roads, and still has long-distance apvement capabilities. Sounds like a blast. I actually like to ride gravel roads on a road bike.
