Warming up

Friday, January 4th, 2008

This morning’s commute was downright balmy, at 25 degrees Fahrenheit. Most of the snow has either blown off the roads or melted by now, so conditions were pretty good aside from excessive salt all over the place. This is really going to take its toll on my bicycle, I think. It’s supposed to warm up this weekend, so maybe I can give my bike (or bikes) a good, thorough cleaning.

I wore my orange wool sweater and my Descente Element jacket today, and I was plenty warm. When it gets really cold again, I may try that jacket with a few layers beneath it, rather than my heavier winter coat.

oh yeah, i don’t know why you didn’t just wear shorts and a half shirt with flip flops, you weirdo. 😉

I’ve learned that multiple thin layers trumps one thick layer any day — especially if the first (or first few!) outermost layers can be unzipped or loosened up for ventilation.

I’m planning my first bike commute in a loooong time on Sunday. I would do it Saturday but I need to get home lickety split to out to dinner with the Johnsons.
