Firefox Live Bookmarks, Refresh Interval

Monday, November 20th, 2006

I’ve only recently started using Firefox’s Live Bookmarks. If you don’t know what this is, look for an orange icon with white curved lines on the right side of your address bar. If you click on that icon, you will be prompted to add a Live Bookmark for the current page — which really means subscribing to its RSS feed. Once you do that, you can click on the Live Bookmark and it’ll show you the newest posts on that site.

If you’re like me, you probably find the default one hour refresh interval for Live Bookmarks seems like forever. I got tired of right clicking and going to “Reload Live Bookmark” to look for new posts — it defeats the purpose of the Live Bookmark in the first place. There’s no menu item to change this setting, but you can do it by going to about:config and adding an Integer value called browser.bookmarks.livemark_refresh_seconds — then set the refresh interval, in seconds. Don’t set the interval too small, out of respect for whomever owns the feed and their server load and bandwidth concerns.

Have you ever met anyone who just looked … indiscriminate? There’s this client who I’ve met with a few times now, and I still have no idea what he looks like. I guess he’s just such a normal-looking guy that he has no distinguishing features.

I was actually worried before my second meeting with this guy that I wouldn’t recognize him. Fortunately, I did, although I’m not sure how. I just want to say to him, “Dude! What do you look like?”

Have you ever known anyone who didn’t look like anything?

Crappy Weather

Monday, November 20th, 2006

Well, I was hoping to get a trail ride in today, but the weather ended up being pretty crappy. There was only a 30% chance of rain, but it ended up being about 40 degrees and raining for most of the day. Hopefully, I can get a night ride in sometime early this week and some real rides in next weekend.

Given the conditions outside, Sarah and I went for a drive instead. I attempted to recreate the route Dave and I biked yesterday, but I messed up somewhere along the way. Still, I got to show Sarah some cool portions of the ride on Lanam Ridge Road, and some highlights on South Shore Drive (which we had driven over before, but I now had some more information about some things along the way).

We definitely need to get out sometime soon and do some photography. There are some stunning disintegrating barns and other structures, and vehicles, that would make for some great photos.
